There are two ways to be nominated for a chapter
board position:
SELF - Any design professional willing to participate and to fulfill the obligations
of a board position may self-nominate. You need not be a member at the time of nomination
but must join the AIGA prior to becoming a board member.
PEER -Any design professional who feels a particular individual will enhance the quality
of leadership on the AIGA board may nominate that person. The nominee need not be a member
at the time of nomination but must join the AIGA prior to becoming a board member.
Overview of board member general duties:
1. Become a Professional member of AIGA
2. Serve two-year term
3. Attend board meetings regularly. If you are unable to attend, inform the board in
advance, if possible; participation via phone is possible. More than 2 board meetings
missed in a year is grounds for dismissal.
4. You are encouraged to attend the bi-annual design conferences.
5. Attend all local events.
6. Membership must be kept current.
7. Maintain regular contact with chapter board members (most communication is done via
email and Internet, therefore, frequent Internet access is crucial.)
AIGA Tampa Bay has openings for the following board positions
1. Membership Director
The Membership Director's primary responsibility is to maintain and grow the local membership.
The Membership Director will lead any recruiting/membership drive initiatives. He/she
will do this primarily through planning the annual membership event and use it as a venue
for promoting AIGA Tampa Bay. He/she will also direct a committee whose responsibilities
will include: maintaining an accurate and current local membership list, coordinating
membership information with the national office, preparing the list for mailings and
for event registration, maintaining a database of volunteers, collecting volunteer surveys
after all events, writing letters to welcome new members and remind members of renewal.
2. Programs and Events Director
The Programming Director develops AIGA Tampa Bay programs and events, based on their
alignment with AIGA's local and national mission statement. He/she directs a committee
that helps identify potential programs/speakers/issues of interest and is responsible
for selecting an Event Chair from amongst the members of this committee. Each member
of the committee should plan on assisting in the planning of an event. Events and programs
constitute the outward appearance of the chapter and provide for member opportunities
and community outreach, therefore, the program director must balance programming to meet
the needs of different members and offer a complete schedule of events. Other responsibilities
include:
Coordinate the events committee and its monthly meetings
Solicit new members for the committee
Maintain a list of potential event volunteers
Coordinate individual events throughout the year
Work with the board and members to provide a variety of programming
Coordinate the annual fundraiser with a sub-committee or sub-chair
Work with the chapter board of directors on all events
Report all committee decision to the chapter board of directors
Report on upcoming and past events at the monthly board meetings
3. Web Director
The Web Director is responsible for the direction of the chapter web site and the AIGA
Tampa Bay web committee. He/she will work closely with each board member and student
group coordinator as a liaison for information to be added as content to the web. The
Web Director must be familiar with Adobe Creative Suite, Coldfusion, and HTML.
