Meet the Judges of Our First Competition, ⌘X & ⌘V

We here at AIGA Tampa Bay searched high and low for the best of the best Tampa Bay had to offer to judge the ⌘X & ⌘V: A Collage Competition for Friday March 24, at 6:30 PM. Seeing how the collaging will go down in one of St. Petersburg’s finest breweries, Cage Brewing (2001 1st Ave. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33712), it was only appropriate to get the finest designers St. Petersburg has to offer to judge the competition!

Meet the Judges

Tara Segall
Content Strategist, Roundhouse Creative

Tara Segall is the design and content strategist at Roundhouse Creative, located in St. Petersburg’s first net zero energy building right on Central Ave! She is also the host of CreativeMornings St. Pete, an international monthly breakfast lecture series designed for creative communities. She’s a sucker for a tall, slender sans & advises the collage competitors to use a sharp blade and aim to delight.

Elizabeth Herrmann
Graphic Design Professor, University of South Florida

Elizabeth Herrmann is a photographer, type designer, installation guerrilla, arts promoter, printmaker, culture critic, writer, activist, and university faculty; she teaches art and design at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg while slinging lo-fi messaging across the States. Her personal mantra goes “something like substance over style, or content-first design.” Her advice for competitors? Snorting flour creates a rudimentary wheatpaste, if you should run out of glue.

Sarah Weaver
Co-Owner, Bandit Coffee Co.

Sarah Weaver is a wearer of many fun hats at Bandit Coffee Co. – co-owner, social media & retail manager, in-house design & art direction, as well as a freelance designer. She’s known for minimal and monochromatic tendencies and an affinity for fluffy animals. She’s been admiring Meg Lewis (@darngooood) of @ghostlyferns immensely. Sarah adores Meg’s style, positivity, and platform as a designer, a woman, and a human. To those competing she says: “Have fun! Don’t fuck up! When you do, own it. It’s all part of the process.”

Eight competitors will get back to the basics and fight head-to-head creating raw, handmade collages based on single-word prompts. The judges will decide their fate as the winners work through a series of rounds, each with a new prompt. The winner of the final round will take home a prize supplied by AOE Artworld!
